Good-bye Green Bay

Dear Green Bay Savers,

It has been extra quiet over here at GB Savers for well over a month. I have been enjoying my new baby girl. Little ones really do grow so very fast! During my month "off" we had another new development in our family. My husband got a promotion that will require us to move to Arizona the end of this month.

We moved from Arizona to Green Bay in 2000 and still have family and friends there so it will be kind of like going "home". I thought about running GB Savers from afar, but decided against it. This seems like a good time to back away and concentrate on my family.

If you are looking for a local blogger I highly recommend the Green Bay Consumer site. Jennifer will take good care of you! You can get great local deals without a bunch of fluff and spam. She doesn't re-post all the same deals you can find on big national blogs and she won't tell you every deal is "HOT". You can follow the Green Bay Consumer all the same ways you follow GB Savers: daily email, full RRS feed, Facebook, Twitter, and even Google+!! If you're just starting out Jennifer will even be offering some free coupon classes in the months ahead so be sure to take advantage of those.

While I won't be posting anything new or updating posts I will leave the site up. That way if you want you can read or re-read my how-to type posts. Here are a few of my favorites:
I will really miss blogging here and sharing deals with all of you. I definitely won't be giving up my money saving ways... I'll just be adapting them to my new location!

Thanks for being some of the best readers a blogger could ask for!

Keep saving!

~Shelly~

Free Fun: De Pere Fire Station Open House

The De Pere Fire Station Open House is this Saturday, October 8th from 10am - 1pm. Tour the fire station, check out all the emergency vehicles, fire safety demos, freebies, prizes, and snacks! With five little boys we have made this event an annual tradition. Some years we need winter coats and freeze, other years we are wearing shorts and sunscreen. Looks like it will be shorts again this year! Hope to see you there!

Bzz Agent: Bill Jac Dog Food

Not long ago I became a BzzAgent. Basically this is a site that you join that offers you free product in exchange for your honest reviews and publicity for their product. I've already been apart of 2 Bzz Campaigns (I got free shoe inserts from Dr. Scholls and now free dog food from Bil Jac). Along with my free bag of dog food I receive several coupons for $10 off 1 bag of Bil Jac dog food that I need to pass out. If any of you readers have a dog and are interested in trying Bil Jac, leave a comment and I'll figure out how to share the savings with you.

As a former Veterinary Technician I am passionate about feeding my dogs a high quality food. Not only does it make them appear healthier (shiny coat, bright eyes, etc) but a high quality diet helps prevent costly health problems (ear infections, skin diseases, etc). Bil Jac is definitely in the "high quality" category and I'm happy to recommend it.

Coffee Deal

I was just checking out coffee deals on Amazon and I came across a good one!

Community Coffee Private Reserve Ground Coffee, Medium-Dark Roast, 100% Chicory, 12-Ounce Bags (Pack of 6)

Normal price $18.37

But if you do Subscribe & Save it brings your total to $15.61

Target Deals

I know it's been F-O-R-E-V-E-R since I posted some Target deals, mostly because there haven't been any that were super great, but here's my list for this week and I think it's worth the trip!
  • Photo prints are 10 cents each this week, which is a great deal anyway, but print a $2/20 prints Target coupon and you get them for free! Print this coupon twice and plan on doing 2 orders of 20 so that you get 40 prints for free!
  • 18 Gallon totes are on sale for $5 each.
  • Orbit gum- if you got the latest coupon booklet from Target they had a $1 off 2 Orbit 3 packs, there was also a manufacturers coupon available on the Target coupon site recently for $1 off 1 3 pack. Unfortunately it's not available any more, but if you printed it earlier you could get $3 off 2 Orbit 3 packs
  • Huggies diapers- Target has deal this week that if you buy 3 jumbo packs of diapers you get a $5 Target card. Ask around for those high-value $3/1 coupons (in the coupon inserts in the paper last Sunday) for the new Slip-Ons, stack that with the $2/1 Target printable (not available anymore-this is why you print when you can!!) and you're going to get a great deal on diapers!
Those are the best deals I've found for awhile. Happy Shopping!

Good Things Come in Small Packages!

Have you noticed it's been extra quiet here on GB Savers lately? There's a good reason for that! In addition to all the busyness that comes with six children and getting ready for a new year of homeschooling, I am just a few weeks away from having Baby #7!! I plan to continue to post here and there as I am able and feel up to it, but it definitely won't be as much as normal.

While I'm taking it easy, you can still get local deals (like Festival Match-Ups!) from my good buddy Jennifer over at the Green Bay Consumer. For more national deals, head up to the FAQ & Links tab above for some of my personal favorites.

Our whole family is very excited and looking forward to the day we get to meet our new little one. Thanks for your patience in the busy days and weeks ahead!

Target Clothes Clearance

Just wanted to give you a heads up that Target has some pretty great clothes coupons available on their website right now including $5 off 1 Women's Denim Item and $3 off 1 Women's Mossimo Top. I stopped in yesterday and they have several racks of 30-75% off items. I couldn't find jeans in my size, but if I could've squeezed into a size 5 I would have gotten them free after the coupon. I DID find a Mossimo shirt for $3.74 so I only paid 0.74 for it! Pretty sweet!

Recall: Ground Turkey

Over 36 million pounds of ground turkey are being recalled because of salmonella. At least 76 people have become sick and one has died from eating the tainted meat. Wisconsin is one of the states affected by the recall.

The company issuing the recall is Cargill, but if you don't recognize the name you should still check any ground turkey you have.  Cargill packages meat for several brands including Honeysuckle and Aldi's Fit and Active. No matter what the brand, all the recalled packages include the code "Est. P-963". See the Cargill website for more information and a complete list of all the affected brands.

Summer Fun: Pink Flamingo Tournament

Have you ever heard of the Pink Flamingo Charity Softball Tournament? It's an annual July favorite for our family. The festivities run from July 15th to July 17th at Legion Park in East De Pere. You can go cheer on teams while they play and eat some tasty food (for reasonable prices) at any time throughout the tournament. There are plenty of other fun things to do too...

Run a 5K on Saturday morning at 8:30am.

Our favorite is the parade that starts at 9am. It runs from DePere High School to Legion Park. You can literally fill bags or buckets with the candy that they throw. The teams are always VERY generous! If you have older kids or tweens who aren't that excited about parades anymore you can have them bring water guns. Some of the floats are moving water fights! We always try to create a dry zone and a wet zone so the little kids don't end up crying over soaked candy. :)

This year there will be a free concert featuring Big Mouth on Saturday at 7pm.

For more information and times click on the Pink Flamingo page here.

Cheap and Green Clean: All Purpose Cleaner

For those of you who don't know me... I can be a little bit of clean freak, but I don't like to spend a lot on cleaning products. Well, except for Magic Erasers. With five messy little boys in the house, I've found those things to be worth every penny!

A couple years ago when I was looking for a kid-friendly cleaner for my children to clean with, I came across this frugal recipe. We have been using it ever since and I am very pleased with the results. It's basically an all-purpose cleaner (similar to Formula 409). I have used it on just about everything. [Disclaimer: I do not have stainless steel appliances or granite counter tops so I'm not sure how it'd work on those.]

All Purpose Cleaner Recipe:
2 T. white vinegar
1 T. Borax
2 T. Dawn dish soap
1 cup hot water, plus water to fill rest of container
Triggered Spray Bottle (got ours at the Dollar Tree)

Mix vinegar, borax and hot water in spray bottle. Fill bottle almost to the top with water. Then add Dawn dish soap. Gently rotate the bottle to mix. If you shake it you'll make lots of suds!

If you're not cleaning a really dirty or greasy surface, I've found that you can dilute this even a little bit further. I usually make a double batch in a recycled 64 oz. plastic juice container and it still works great. I just refilled the spray bottle as needed. Although the ingredients are all non-toxic, I did mark the spray bottle with the ingredients just in case.

Reminder: $2 Marcus Movie

This week Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday at 10am you can see Hop for just $2! Get more details and see the summer schedule here.
