Can you believe it's May already?! Seems like I just got used to writing 2010 and it's almost half way through the year. Just a quick heads up if this if your first deal seeking summer... stock up! When you see a great deal take advantage of it. I think deals become a little harder to find in the summer. Don't worry they reappear around Back-to-School time but I don't want you to end up paying for toothpaste because you didn't plan ahead a little bit! :)
If you shop deals now you should be able to stock up on enough ketchup, mustard, barbecue sauce, relish, baked beans, and other summer/picnic type foods to last you until next year at this time. I know that sounds like a lot but just think about how long a bottle ketchup lasts you, do the math (how many is a year's supply for your family?), and then stock up when it's on sale! Do that for each deal you come across and you'll soon find you are spending much less at the grocery store. Or better yet, you might find you don't have to go to the store for a week or two at all!
As you find deals on summer produce (strawberries, blueberries, peaches, corn, etc.) consider buying a little extra to freeze or preserve for those dreary winter months when you wish produce didn't cost a small fortune.
Gas prices tend to rise a bit in the summer as well and this year it will probably be worse (due to that recent spill). So perhaps by saving money in other areas of your budget, like groceries, you'll leave a little more wiggle room for gas in the months ahead.
