Mega Swag Bucks Day!

Did you know that Fridays are Mega Swag Buck Days? If you search on Fridays there is a greater chance to earn MEGA Swag Bucks!!

I also just wanted to share this tip I got last week. It worked for me... you can get a free Swag Buck by going to the Swag Buck site and on the left side bar there is a link to “Special Offers.” Click on that and then on the “No Obligation Offers.” Skip all of the offers and at the end of all of them you will find a free Swag Buck code.

I also heard that if you sign up for the newsletter, you might get a free Swag code at the bottom of it. The newsletter link is also in the sidebar on the left.

If you're not a member of Swag Bucks. I highly recommend you join! It's free!

As a helpful hint... whenever you take one of these types of "quizzes" remember who is sponsoring the link. If you're already a customer of theirs they won't work as hard to get your business, so choose a competitor. :)

Menu Planning

Want to know my number one money saving tip when it comes to groceries? And no, it's NOT coupons! [Although I love coupons and get almost all our toiletries free because of them.] The best way to save money on groceries is... menu planning!

I didn't use to feel that way. I wondered why everyone said making a menu saved them money. How can you save money if you make a menu and then go buy the needed items even if they aren't on sale? That wouldn't save you any money!

But I had it all backwards. To save money using a menu... DO NOT plan a menu and then go shopping for the needed ingredients. Shop, taking advantage of the deals and sales, then plan your menu around what you have in your pantry and freezer. That way you are getting the best deals and using what you have. Always keep an eye out for sales on the items you use most. When you see a good deal...STOCK UP!

Festival Internet Coupon Policy (Clarification)

After reading Festival's internet coupon policy yesterday, I left the following comment on their blog:

I did just want to clarify that you meant you do not accept “free product” coupons from the internet. You will still accept “free product” coupons from the newspaper or direct mailings, correct?

And here is the comment I got in reply:

Great question. Yes, we do accept legitimate “free product” coupons that are pre-printed and sent via postal mail or published in a media source such as the newspaper. “Free Product” coupons from these sources are typically printed double-sided and/or on security paper which helps to validate a coupons authenticity.

Just in case there was any confusion that clears it up! Thankfully, there are not very many internet "free product" coupons.

As a friendly reminder... always do your best to only use legitimate coupons. Using fraudulent coupons could ruin the deals for everyone, especially at the smaller, local stores that can't absorb fraudulent coupon use like a larger, national chain.

If you ever wonder about an internet coupon you can go to the CIC Website and check their list of known counterfeit coupons.

InfantSee Free Infant Eye Exams

InfantSEE is a federal public health program that allows parents to get a free, comprehensive infant eye exam when the child is between the ages of six to twelve months. The exam will help determine if their eyes are healthy and their vision is developing normally.

To find a doctor go to the InfantSEE website or call 888-396-EYES. Several doctors are listed in the GB area, but I would call their office and confirm that the exam is completely free and to see if there are any restrictions.

Swagbucks

Have you heard about Swagbucks yet? I've seen it mentioned on several money saving blogs but just recently gave it a try myself. It's actually very simple. You just sign up for an account and use the Swagbucks page to search the internet. [You can download a special toolbar if you want but it's not required.] As you search, you will earn Swagbucks. The bucks can then be redeemed for gift cards and other prizes.

It seems the favorite thing to earn is a $5 Amazon gift certificate. I can see why... it's only 45 Swagbucks and Amazon sells just about everything. An added bonus... it didn't take me very long to reach 45! Several bloggers paid for Christmas using the bucks they earned. That sold me! So if you haven't given it a try yet... hop to it. Click through here or from the box in the sidebar! You get free stuff and I'll get a few bucks for referring you!

Do Your Federal Taxes for Free

If you file simple federal tax forms TurboTax offers their software free online. Filing state returns will cost you though. If you do your taxes yourself (either on paper or with a different program) you might want to punch in the numbers to check your math. You don't have to pay until you actually file (even for the paid versions).
