A Few Bits of Blog Business

Just wanted to let you guys know about a few recent changes to GB Savers! First, I finally broke down and bought a domain so you can now access GB Savers directly at www.gbsavers.com!! If you happen to have the old blogspot address bookmarked or in your RSS reader it should automatically re-direct you. If for some reason it does not or you have any trouble, please let me know.

Second, if you are hipper than me and have a mobile phone that can access the web, you can now access the mobile version of GB Savers. It's like GB Savers "lite"... just the content, no sidebars. Figure that might come in handy if you want to look at a deal list while you are actually at the store!

This has been around for while but I haven't really mentioned it. If you happen to use Twitter you can follow GB Savers on Twitter here. All the blog posts are set to automatically appear there as well as Facebook.

Copps/Pick N' Save/Rainbow Coupon Match Ups

Cetirizine (Zyrtec) Deal at CVS

If any of you out there are allergy sufferers like me and rely on Zyrtec to control your symptoms, I stumbled on a good deal at CVS today. The coupon machine printed a $2 CVS Cetirizine coupon and when I went to the shelf, they had the 30 ct. package on sale for $13.99, which is decent in itself, but they were well stocked w/ 100% more FREE bottles, so you get 60/bottle! Also, there is an ECB ($1) printing for these, which I didn't even know about. So, when all is said & done you can get 60ct. for $10.99 after coupon and ECB's. This was at the Howard location on Velp.

NOTE: Watch the register! This did ring up incorrectly for me. The computer recognized it as a 60ct. bottle and rang up at $17.99, instead of the 30ct. price of $13.99, but the cashier was happy to fix it!

TODAY ONLY: Hansen's Warehouse Sale

The Bargain Sleuth has a post up about Hansen's warehouse sale going on today only, but GB Savers reader Dolly just emailed me to let me know the deal is even sweeter than just pizza!

Do Coupons Really Help You Save?

This is from an email discussion and thought it was worth sharing! Basically, someone had seen the Extreme Couponing show and wondered if using coupons was really worth it. One of the ladies in the discussion (not me!) wrote this great email in response (bold is my emphasis):

I think the TLC show on extreme couponing got many people talking about coupons, both positive and negative. For me, I have made several failed attempts at couponing over the years, but in the beginning of November I decided to take another stab at it when I saw that the many couponing sites have done almost all of the legwork for me. Much, much easier than in past years!

In November, being a complete novice, I saved $650 (of our usual $1000 grocery budget) and we had much, much more food on hand than ever before. Even with the purchase of a coupon binder and the time spent to learn the systems, I probably spent $100 on the binder, plastic pages, and newspapers, and maybe 10 hours learning how to do it all and setting up the binder. An excellent investment on month one for me, and an immediate payoff as well. Now I have my binder and my knowledge and I am doing very well with the couponing and I just buy 2 papers per week, so no more out of pocket expenses.

Before coupons I almost exclusively shopped at Walmart and bought a lot of store brand items. Now I shop at the grocery store, Walgreens, and CVS, and get tons of name brand items and things that previously would have been more of a luxury purchase for us, for way, way less than I ever paid for store brand items. When I walk through Walmart now, the prices make me cringe because I know how much higher they are than what I can get the items for.
