My CVS deals for this week

I was lucky enough to go shopping yesterday and had at the end of my receipt a coupon for $5 off $15 purchase. It expired on June 8 so I had to get there fast.

Here are the deals I got. I have 2 cards, so I was able to do some deals twice.

Here is what I got for card #1:

4- Degree Deodorant @ $2.50 each = $10
2 - Dove Deodorant @ $2.50 each = $5
1 - Dawn Hand Renewal dish soap = $0.97
1 - Gillette Fusion Razor = $9.97
4 - Windex Antibacterial Cleaner @ $2.50 = $10
2 - Rolaids @ $3.99 = $7.98
Total before coupons = $43.92

Coupons used:
1- $5 off $15
4 - $1/1 off Windex coupons, (5/9/10 SS) or IP here
2 - $2/1 Dove deodorant IP coupon here
2- $3/2 Degree deodorant coupons here or here
1- $4/1 Gillette Fusion razor (6/6 PG)
1 - $4/2 Rolaids coupon (6/6 RP - Not in GBPG paper)
1 - $1 Dawn coupon rounded down to $0.97 (mailer from P&G, not from home made simple mailer)
Total MC coupons = $27.97

Subtotal = $15.95
ECBs used = $1, $4.99, $4, $4, $2 (rounded down to $1.96)
Total OOP = $2.09 which was all tax
Earned $19 in ECBs

Just a note: Normally when you receive a $/$$ coupon, you want your total before coupons to be just over $15 so that you OOP will be the lowest possible it can be. However, I had $13.99 in ECBs that were expiring this week that I wanted to get used up, so I did it all in one transaction.

Here is transaction #2, done on second card.

1 - Gillette Fusion ProGlide Razor = $9.97
2 - Rolaids @ $3.99 each = $7.98
1 - Venus Razor = $8.99
1 - Dawn Hand Renewal = $0.97

Total before coupons = $27.91

Coupons used:
$5/$15 CVS coupon
$4/1 Gillette Razor
$4/2 Rolaids
$2/1 Venus razor (6/6 PG)
$1/1 Dawn hand renewal (Home made simple home mailer) - Actually took full $1 off
Total coupons = $16

Subtotal = $11.91

ECBs used = $7, $4.99 ($11.99 total) which actually gave me a subtotal of negative 8 cents. Occasionally this does happen, but normally not. I haven't been able to figure out when and why this happens.

Total OOP = $1.18
ECBs earned = $5, $4, $4, $1 (green tag) = $14

I also discovered today that the Gillette Fusion Razor has published a limit 1, but that is NOT the case. There is at least a limit of 2, but I don't know if that is it.

Where is that coupon?

Are you wondering why sometimes you can't find the coupons listed here or on other money saving blogs? Don't worry you probably aren't missing any inserts! There is a "secret" to getting better coupons! Big city papers (in our area this would be the Chicago Tribune or the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel) have better and MORE coupons than the Green Bay Press Gazette offers.

The downside to buying these papers are: not every store carries them, they are a bit more expensive, and they do not contain our local store ads so if you want to look at the ads you will still need to get a GBPG.

Coupons are regional and larger markets get better coupons. Even if you buy these big city papers you may occasionally come across a coupon that you didn't get. That's because I use a national database to search for coupons and I have no way of knowing which coupons were in which paper. Believe it or not, I don't even buy a Sunday paper! I get multiple coupon inserts and ads from family members who don't use them. So sometimes I type up my deal lists before I even see what coupons we got!

A couple years ago, one of our GB Savers (Vivian) did a coupon count and this is what she found:

A Smart Source in the GBPG vs. the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel had:
Food coupons 8 vs. 14
Household/toiletry coupons 7 vs. 24
Medication/vitamin coupons 2 vs. 10

And the Chicago Tribune vs. the GBPG:
Total coupons: CT = 196 and GBPG = 79

Food - 78 vs. 36
Toiletry - 43 vs. 16
Pharmacy/Meds - 22 vs. 6
MakeUp/Beauty -16 vs. 5
Cleaning - 17 vs. 7
Pet - 11 vs. 0

Here's a video featuring America's Cheapest Family (the Economides). They wrote the book America's Cheapest Family Gets You Right on the Money. I don't agree with everything they say in their book but it is full of helpful information and definitely worth reading! Check it out from the library.
